Bob Blair

Bob Blair served in the 134th Navy Construction Battalion in Guam.  Upon arriving there, he remembers, “everything was totally destroyed.”  Bob worked in the Commanding Officer’s office, typing records and making copies on a mimeograph machine.  Surrounded by officers, Bob was aware of how much better they had it than enlisted men–better booze, food, accommodations . . . and better parties.  What a life!  Determined to experience some of it, he and a friend once attended a lavish Christmas party by wearing officers’ uniforms.  It’s a fond memory, he says, but it could have landed them in the brig!
